June's Tip of the Month: 5 Ways to Save Energy this Summer

In a departure from the site's usual monthly tip about features within the online alumni community, we'd like to give you five quick tips for saving on energy costs and making the planet a little greener during the summer

  1. Water your plants and grass in the cooler hours of morning or evening. Better yet, consider planting grasses, trees and plants that require little-to-no maintenance or watering.
  2. When you're headed to the store, bring a reusable bag for your items instead of having them packed in a plastic bag. (Note: Reunion attendees will receive a stylish Medaille College reusable bag as a gift for attending).
  3. Minimize your air conditioning use by taking advantage of cool morning breezes and blocking the sun that streams through your windows in the heat of the day. Remember, the fan is your friend.
  4. Grill, baby, grill. Instead of heating up your stove or oven and sweating in the kitchen, take your meal prep outdoors and fire up the grill.
  5. At your summer picnics, bring reusable plates and utensils, not plastic ware and Styrofoam plates. The planet will thank you.
