In a week, David Bennett ’09 MC
will be traveling to Lusaka, Zambia through Team Durham, Durham University's
athletic department. The group will work with Sports In Action, Zambia's first sports nongovernmental
organization (NGO), to develop a lacrosse program for the Zambian children.
During
his time in Zambia, Bennett will be training the Sports In Action staff on how to play and coach the sport of
lacrosse, helping to create a sustainable program for the
Zambian children.
Sports In Action
works with nearly 160,000 Zambian children weekly, including orphaned and
vulnerable children, children with disabilities, street children, and adults
and children living with HIV and AIDS.
Bennett is part of Team Durham’s
program which brings over athletes from the US to play for Durham University
and study for their master's degree.
Bennett is pursuing his MA in Marketing
Management and in addition to playing lacrosse, also coached the men's second
team. This year was his second year in the program and he was one of 12
American lacrosse players to receive an athletic scholarship. Bennett and his
team enjoyed an undefeated season and recently won the British Universities and
Colleges Sport National Championship.
None of this would be possible without Mike McTernan (Drexel '08) who is establishing the program with me and Ben Dlugosh, Mike Carbery, Chaz Bulera and the entire Medaille lacrosse family. Thank you to everyone for the support
Graduate programs run year-round at the Medaille's Amherst Campus, including education, mental health counseling, and psychology degrees, along with the Accelerated Learning Program.
With a location in the town of Brighton, Medaille dedicated its campus in Rochester in the summer of 2009, offering associate, bachelor's and master's degrees in business.
