Chad Wainwright was one of 50 people nationwide to be selected by
Student Veterans of America for its Internship Support Program. The
award provides up to $1,500 in support for Wainwright as he completes an
internship this summer.
Wainwright, who is enrolled in Medaille’s mental health counseling
program at its Amherst Campus, is currently interning with Alden
Wellness and Counseling in Alden, N.Y. He works under the supervision of
a mental health counselor to counsel diverse populations, and on
outreach events to educate the public on issues related to mental
health.
"My hope is to work with military veterans suffering from TBI
(traumatic brain injury) and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder),”
said Wainwright.
Also, Wainwright is working for the Erie County Veterans Service
Agency with Director Carlos Benitez, developing plans that link mental
health services with student veterans in need. He is a United States
Army veteran who served from 2003-2008.
Graduate programs run year-round at the Medaille's Amherst Campus, including education, mental health counseling, and psychology degrees, along with the Accelerated Learning Program.
With a location in the town of Brighton, Medaille dedicated its campus in Rochester in the summer of 2009, offering associate, bachelor's and master's degrees in business.
